Professor Gavin Belcher of the Department of Czech and Slavic Studies oversees a course of study which involves a broad range of integrated elements, from history through literature, music and film, and which is assessed by way of essays, the ever popular feuilleton, translation and both formal and colloquial spoken czech and related languages. His area of special interest is the writing of Czech exile Milan Kundera (whose later french writings raise many interest questions), Jaroslav Hašek, Bohumil Hrabal and the Czech folk music scene.
